Pitpilot - Sept/Oct 2006 Issue 13

"We got to watch this movie on the sly, before the premiere, so its all a bit hush hush and I don't really want to spoil the surprise. What I will say is that Performing Monkeys is a great moment for British and Irish surfing. Mr B should be very proud, he's produced a sick film featuring British and Irish boys shredding in disgusting conditions from Thurso to Leven and abroad. All the boys are representing: Oli, Reubyn, Cain, Egor, Stokes, Joss, Fryer, Russ, Toby to name but a few. Performing Monkeys can stand tall against all the big budget offerings, the soundtrack is amped and varied, the cinematography from the land and water is irie and some funny shit goes down. Even though Pitpilot have been involved along the way, I'm not biased in saying this film is an orgy of the British and Irish surfing talent out there today and it has been an absolute honour to have been allowed on the bandwagon. A MUST SEE! Available to buy etc etc....."

Wavelength - Oct/Nov 2006 Issue 160

"The Long awaited British and Irish movie has finally touched down. Featuring everyone who is anyone in British and Irish surfing and filmed mostly in the British Isles it's a must see for anyone in our fair Isles. It is very performance orientated but with such a variety of spots in every country even the most soulful of surfer will get something out of it. available etc......"

Slide - Oct/Nov 2006 Issue 4

"Mr B’s much anticipated film got premiered at the Walkabout in Newquay back in August. The great and the good were in attendance, Stoker, Egor, the Mullins boys, Atkins and many more were there. The movie features pretty much everyone who’s any one in the British scene and there’s great footage from all over Britain, Ireland, Oz, Sri Lanka and a few cheeky waves from the Slide Indo trip. So is it any good? The music is unreal, it’s well filmed and as a document of where British surfing is right now it works really well. The edit could have been a little tighter but that’s a minor gripe when you consider how much good stuff you get. In essence go buy it and make Mr B rich!"

Carve - Nov 2006 Issue 85

  • "Who's in it? Oli Adams, Sam Lamiroy, Dan Joel, Egor Harris and a whole lot more.
  • Who rips? Oli Adams is certainly pushing the British air scene.
  • Time 'til something sick happens? Nathan Philips has a good section in the Mentawais, with a nice tail free off the top at Macca's (11 minitues in).
  • Camera Quality? Good for a British video.
  • Sickest manouvre? Steve England's barrel at Leven.
  • Stupidest comment? All very sensible!
  • Music? Mostly punk which I'm not really into myself.
  • Theme? Well, it is definitely true to the theme: 'A British and Irish surf film'. It does what it says on the tin.
  • Coverlines...truth or hype? Performing Monkeys...um, say no more.
  • Best bits? It's a long video with lots of British surfers surfing well.
  • Worst bits? It follows the Taylor Steele format which isn't a bad thing, just not very original.
  • Rating: *** (3 stars)
